Doe Deere is one of the most successful entrepreneurs, she is the CEO and founder of an online cosmetic company called Lime Crime Cosmetics. She is referred to as the “Union Queen” and she grew up in New York. She studied fashion design and illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City before dropping out to start her own clothing company. Currently, she operates out of Los Angeles, California and is well known for creating bold bright color products that are cruelty-free. Deere got her start by creating her own clothes and selling them online. Since she could not find the bright makeup colors to make her outfits she decided to create her own. In the process of creating her own makeup company, she chose to use a union to represent her company because of the compassionate nature that they possess. She is also a fan of fairy tales and she creates her collections based on different themes such as fantasies, subcultures and interesting mythical creatures.
Deere originally started selling her items on e-Bay back in 2004 by creating her own digital store. She continuously made steady sales her first year. Deere didn’t launch her makeup line until 2008 selling eyeshadow, blush, glitter, primer and fine brushes. She would promote her makeup through video tutorials and that is when Lime Crime Cosmetics became extremely popular and she started to see a significant profit. She was able to use her blog and other social media platform like Instagram to gain a significant fan and this is also where she found many of her first customers. Through this form advertising Deere finds it important to listen to the responses of her customers in order to make her marketing skill better.
As with any entrepreneur, Deere did have a moment of doubt. As mentioned earlier Deere started out with clothing and although she loved clothing she doubted if that was her final destination. She was in her experimental phase still trying to discover her creative side. It was not until she started creating her own makeup that she discovered what she was truly passionate about. Through this passion, she is able to deliver great products, more than she ever able to with clothing. Deere also has had to make a tough decision along her journey, but one of the toughest was deciding on a laboratory for to create her products. Being that she uses cruelty-free vegan products and she also want to still be able to express her creativity freely decided on the right place was hard for Deere. But once she found the right Laboratory she never felt freer to expand her color choices in her products.
Two things that supplied Deere with a successful company is that it is vegan-friendly and she focuses on her motto of beauty should make you happy. With these two ideas in mind, she was able to create a unique and successful brand. Through her success, she has been able to give back to her community by supporting her favorite charities. As for the future she always wants to try new things that will make her company even more successful.
