Born to what many refer to as a Middle-Class family, Hussain Sajwani was passionate about learning as much as he could, later receiving his degree in economics at the University of Washington.

His goal outside of his love of learning was to pursue his dream as a white collar professional, changing his status as well as his pocketbook to a higher tax bracket. During his college years he had explored the idea of attending medical college, but later he would decided differently after attending for only a short period of time in Baghdad.

Growing up, Hussain Sajwani watched his parents work ethic, choosing to work alongside his father in his watch and pen shop, located in the Deira district. His mother was also a working woman, selling goods to other local women in the marketplace. Having grown up with stories from his parents about success, hard work, and what you can learn from your failures, he was able to work hard and plan strategically when he began the DAMAC Group in 1992.

Drawing inspiration from his father’s hard work, Hussain Sajwani was able to keep forging a path in business, learning all that he could about real estate at a young age when his father had the chance to get involved, but watching his father run his watch and pen shop drew him closer to real estate because he saw greater opportunity.

Later DAMAC Group became DAMAC Properties, giving Hussain Sajwani a front-row seat with Donald Trump for business deals.
